It is relazxing to do but interesting at the same time. I really hope to use it more in my own illustrations and in the future.

Assignment 3

This was the 3rd project for my Electronic Illustration class. We were to use different textures and make our own brushes to use on this piece. It was a very different way for me to work, but I think I like the masking textures and plan to do more with this process. I am excited to mold digital techniques to my own needs. Now I can see why digital is so addicting. Lol.

This is for my Materials and Techniques II class. Well, this is the first part, the second part is adding ageing varnish and crackling varnish. Then you take shoe polish to bring out the cracks, seal with sureguard, then paint on top and clean up the edges. I really liked how this painting came out and wanted to show you a sad panda~___~ lol.

Here is my second assignment for Electronic Illustration. This is my 1st Digital painting I have done completely and successfully. I turned it in yesterday, I hope I get a decent grade. I really enjoyed this coloring process and plan to use it some more.
This was the last assignment that I did for Watercolor for the Illustrator during the Summer Quarter. This piece was done was with watercolors. I plan on redoing this image, I want to see if I can do this better, but that will probably not be until Winter.

Watercolor for the Illustrator Assignment

Here is one of the assignments that I did for my five week class this summer - Watercolor for the Illustrator. The assignment was to make a foreground, middle ground, and background in the composition. The first time I turned it in the professor told me to add more color because there was too much of the under painting of gray that I used to make the under painting. So, I went back and redid it and I think it came out ok~ I wish to do another scene like this but better and not so rushed @o@~~~

I will put more up as soon as I can~ I think I have some good portfolio pieces but I just need to get them printed nicely since they are too big to fit in my portfolio I have now~

Circus Character Design Project

The assignment was to design a set of 6 circus or side show freak characters that had to look stylistically the same. I decided to use Copic markers for this project because I really wanted to use them for a project and they are really fast for me to use because the professor assigned the assignment last Tuesday and expected them to be done that Thursday...talk about fast turn around. Fortunately, the professor gave us an extension and the characters were due this Monday and had to be printed out. Here are my six characters:

The Snake Charmer

The Elephant Girl

The Sultan

The Ring Leader

The Mermaid

The Siamese Twins
I really enjoyed making these characters!! Our last project was we had to put them all in a 8"x 22" picture which was crazy. I liked how mine came out, but I still would like to work on it some more before I post it~

I need to go to sleep... Finals was INTENSE!! I was working on 6 projects all together >...> Three redos along with my final projects and two character design for someone animation project.... I was CRAZY!! But now I know what I can and cannot handle.

Ja!

Poster Project

This was our third assignment for Intro to Illustration. The project was to design a poster for an event, so I chose the Carnival De Venecia (Carnival of Venice). I enjoyed doing a more simplified image than I normally do. First I masked the mask with masking fluid, then painted the background with black India ink and Alizrin Crimson watercolor. Then, I used Cerulean Blue watercolor with some Peacock Blue watercolor to make the mask. I also did the text myself! I swear that I wrote "Carnival De Venecia a million times only to realize that I was spelling it wrong :/ I put the text and image in Photoshop and put them together in a file. I think the text came out really well. I need to do more simple images >...> It was interesting that someone in class said this looked like a certain part of the body when you turn it upside down, which was ok with me because the Carnival when it first started was mostly attended by young men (married or not) and prostutes. I wonder what they did during the carnival..hmmmmm.

Our assignment was to create an image for the cover of The New Yorker magazine. So, I decided to do a commentary on how the age for owning a cell phone and drinking coffee at Starbucks is getting younger and younger. This image was done in watercolor, india ink applied with a Sumi brush and a G-pen. I really enjoyed doing this piece and very excited about the next piece because it is in black and white!

This was our third assignment for Editorial Illustration, an illustration for an article about heart disease in women. This is the first time I have glazed watercolors... it was an experience and now I have learned what and what not to do, I will probably do another one. Let us see what grade I get one it eh?

Friday, July 17, 2009

Our 2nd Project for Editorial Illustration was an article about picking the right shoe for your wedding dress. It was a tough one for me because my color comps had too much color, so after not looking at it for a few hours, I do enjoy the outcome. This illustration was done with Winsor and Newton Watercolors on 140lb Arches paper and the line work was done with a brush pen and a dip pen with a Gpen nib with Higgins india ink, the waterproof one. I enjoyed doing this piece and learned a great deal from it. Now I am excited for our next assignment!

Wow... I haven't used markers in a LONG TIME... It shows =____= . This piece was done with Copic markers and Copic marker liners. This was inspired by Jingna's bridal photo shoot. I really enjoy her photography and hope she puts out another book!
Funny part about doing this picture is I was working on this before we received our new assignment in my Editorial Illustration class. Our new assignment is... Bridal illustration! woo.

I will put that one up when it is finished (so after next week)
Harry Potter! Next week! Yes!

"Balding Eagle" done with watercolor on 140 lb Arches. Done for Editorial Class.

Thursday, July 2, 2009

This piece was the final done in my material and techniques I class. The medium is pastels, is 12"x18" and the theme of the assignment was "Secrets". I really enjoyed this project and feel more confident with pastels because our professor had us read an article with an interview of Gary Kelley and his pastel process. It was amazing how his process really worked. I think this is one of my favorite pieces I had done last quarter.

I think I can post this! This is a watercolor piece that I did for a charity artbook called "For you, For me"... I think. This piece is called Doe Flowers and was painted with Winsor & Newton Artist Watercolors. You can really see a difference with the pigments between the Cotman Colors and the Artist Watercolors. You get what you pay for!! Also, it didn't take as long to paint because I didn't have to do a million layers to get a decent amount of pigment.
When the artbook comes out, I will post the link to buy it. I can't wait to see the charities that this book will benefit.
Here a article on deviantart about it ----> http://news.deviantart.com/article/76621/

I am excited to see how it looks in the book. I am saving up to get one!

That is all I have for right now. I am hoping to work on some personal art before I really get into my school projects.

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

This is the first assignment piece I did for Material and Techniques class. This is india ink on clayboard, then scratched like a scratch board. I really enjoyed this technique, I need to do another image and try to add some color inks to see what happens. Even watercolor works I hear.

This piece I did for a Survey of Illustration a assignment. It was our final assignment to do a Rolling Stone cover. This was done in watercolor on Reeves BFK paper. Stephen Colbert and RAIN~ Gotta love it!

We were to create two images one in black and white, the other in watercolor and ink for the short story for our last assignment for Drawing and Design for Illustrators. I really like how this one came out: )

Well... It is going good at school. Trying to write my last paper and finishing up an assignment for Illustration and Color Drawing. I will put up more work when I finish this quarter!!! I really need to sketch more... I miss it. Ja!

Drawing III Final

Here is my Drawing III Final. Finished it March 19, 2008. I hope to put up the images from that class. I have at least 3 good drawing from that class. I really enjoyed doing this piece. I was done on BFK Rives with watercolor. The project was a self-directed project.

My first post... epic. I go to Savannah College of Art and Design where I am majoring in Illustration. I made this blog because I became restless while writing my paper for class. I think I might be prone to bad paper writing... because of absurdness. I hope to keep up with sketches, school work, and just general artworks with this blog. Deviantart is scaring me to the point of fear of large sites with lots of art. Hopefully this works!
